Timmy's Blueberry Bliss Smoothie

My husband LOVES blueberries. He lives for them. This man has gotten blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup. I guess it’s the same way I feel about pancakes. I wanted to create a very blueberry smoothie for him that wouldn’t cause a sugar crash and would fuel his body and brain for the day! That’s how I came up with this smoothie recipe. It’s substantial enough to drink for breakfast or lunch, but not so heavy you will feel queasy during a workout.

I like to add as much protein as I possibly can before a workout because, for me, I’ve noticed the more protein I have, the better the workout goes. Protein helps keep me satiated and improves my endurance, especially when I am doing cardio or HIIT.

Notes about ingredients:

Acai is known as the Amazonian beauty berry. It has a high level of polyphenols which has been linked to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative and cardioprotective properties. These are all things I need more of so that’s why it’s included in two different forms in this smoothie! You can find acai in the frozen section of your grocery store, near the frozen fruit. It is typically frozen in single serve packets which makes it easy to use! I also use acai powder which can be found near the superfoods like cacao. I think the flavor is very similar to blueberry so it works well in this recipe.

Collagen is not necessary for this recipe, but a welcome addition! I try to get as much collagen as possible in my diet.

MCT oil stands for medium chain triglycerides. It is very similar to coconut oil, but most coconut oils are not pure MCT oil. Pure MCT oil is more easily absorbed by the body.

Maca is another antioxidant rich superfood that is most widely known for it’s fertility benefits in men and women. It is an adaptogenic source of natural energy that also helps combat stress and fatigue.

Smoothies are one of my favorite meals because they are quick and easy. Pour all the ingredients into the blender and blend, baby, blend! Make them the night before, pop them in the fridge, and you have fuel for the morning! I hope you enjoy this easy and delicious blueberry-filled smoothie!
